Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated on 30 December 2025.

We at Hope Haven are working to make our site www.hopehavenhome.co.za accessible to people with disabilities.

1. Our Commitment

At Hope Haven Home, our mission is to provide a place of safety, love, and belonging. We believe this spirit of inclusion should extend to our digital presence. We are committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, technology, or circumstance.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

2. Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The Hope Haven Home website is partially observant of WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Use of the term "partially observant" means that some parts of the content may not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard, though we are continuously working to improve this.

3. Accessibility Features

When developing and updating our website, we strive to ensure the following features are in place:

  • Alternative Text: We aim to provide descriptive "alt text" for images of our facilities and events, ensuring that users with visual impairments using screen readers can understand the content.

  • Color Contrast: We have chosen our corporate color palette (yellows, greys, and teals) to ensure sufficient contrast between text and background for readability.

  • Keyboard Navigation: We endeavor to strictly use HTML so that the website is navigable via keyboard for those who cannot use a mouse.

  • Clear Structure: We use proper heading structures (H1, H2, etc.) to make it easier for screen readers to navigate the page.

4. Third-Party Content

Hope Haven Home utilizes third-party services to support our operations, particularly for processing donations (e.g., PayFast, Yoco, or GivenGain) and social media feeds.

Please be aware that these third-party sites are not under our direct control. While we select partners who value inclusivity, they may not always be fully compliant with the same accessibility standards as our own site. If you encounter difficulty using a donation widget or a form, please contact us directly so we can assist you with an alternative method of contributing.

5. Feedback and Assistance

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the Hope Haven Home website. If you encounter accessibility barriers, or if you need any part of our content in an alternative format, please contact us.

We are a small team, but we are dedicated to assisting you:

We try to respond to feedback within 3-5 business days.

6. Formal Enforcement

In South Africa, digital accessibility is supported by the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (PEPUDA). We take our moral and legal obligations seriously. If you feel we have not met your needs or have discriminated against you based on disability, please give us the opportunity to rectify the situation by contacting our Director directly.
